Thatched Cottage Renovations

Thatched Cottage

Frilford

This Grade II listed building had been without due care and attention for a number of years when the Client purchased it. The brief was simple: restore it back to its former historical glory, reusing and giving balance to the architectural heritage. A disjointed existing internal layout required attention to bring this property up to the standards of modern family living.

Listed Building Renovation and Extension, Oxfordshire

The right-most wing of the property was opened up and extended with a pocket box extension, to form a kitchen, dining and snug area, bolstered by a utility room for practical storage. The vast expanse of the room is broken up by a step down into the snug to provide some degree of separation.  The extension is tastefully clad in western red cedar, designed to compliment the historical values of the existing dwelling.

Further alterations included the introduction of ensuite bathrooms, construction of a plant room, repurposing rooms and applying new decorative finishes. Maintaining period features such as the gun rack and chimney were essential, and local craftsmen have had these carefully restored.
