Four Seasons
Moreton
Set in the rural village of Moreton (situated near Thame, Oxfordshire), Four Seasons was purchased by a self-builder who had the vision of building their dream detached home on the site.
Luxury Detached Self Build Near Thame, Oxfordshire
The site houses a tired bungalow which will be demolished to make way for the proposed dwelling. The new house is clad in a horizontally laid Western Red Cedar cladding, complimented by a rustic style multi-coloured brick. The roof is finished in a mixed-colour reclaimed rooftile, given authenticity to the new home. Aluminium framed low-profile glazing and galvanised guttering and downpipes complete the elevations.
The ground floor contains a generously sized kitchen, containing a separate tea making area and pantry. To the left wing of the house is a large open plan living dining area, complete with a log burner and large Crittal style windows, allowing the maximum amount of natural light to enter the space. A brise soleil structure is tactfully placed to provide some shading to the glass, preventing solar heat gain. A large plant room and cupboard ensures that ironing boards, hoovers, brooms and the alike can be stored away without impacting day-to-day living. A separate study and family area are accessed off the grand hallway with a central feature staircase.
The master bedroom overlooks the privately owned field to the North of the site through full height apex glazing, which is some 3.8m high at the tallest point. An ensuite containing a bath and large shower tray, and dressing room area complete the master bedroom. A further 3 bedrooms are provided on the first floor, one with an ensuite, alongside a large family bathroom.
Careful attention to the technical detail on this project was a must; ensuring that the timber cladding was to the highest standards. Another key consideration is that the brick-clad soffits to the overhanging areas were structurally secure and seamlessly blend in with the surrounding brickwork. KW Architectural orchestrated the sub-contractor design of these soffits. The project is delivered with U values exceeding the statutory minimum by circa. 30%, to create an energy efficient, air tight home.
