KW Architectural were approached by a homeowner to improve and renovate their detached bungalow for their family of 7.

House Renovation and Rear Extension, Oxfordshire

The ground floor contained two of the houses 6 bedrooms, and required an extension to be able to maintain a healthy amount of amenity space for the occupants.

The single storey rear extension comprise two large glazed apertures, opening up onto a large rear garden. The dual-pitched roofs not only keep the ridge height of the property low, but provide an opportunity for a vaulted ceiling internally. The elevations were finished with a monocouche render, with complimentary anthracite grey detailing to the fascias, soffits and gutters.

Careful consideration had to be given to ensure that the kitchen and playroom in the heart of the property were not ‘left in the dark.’ The introduction of rooflights and additional windows ensured this was not the case, and with the partial removal of a load-bearing wall, the occupants of the kitchen can still look out into the rear garden, despite it being located in the middle of the house.
